Singers Sharpen Their Skills at Boone Central Clinic

By: Paige Kurpgeweit, a freshman at Leigh High School

On January 10th, 19 students from Clarkson-Leigh attended the Boone Central Honor Choir event.

Students attending were senior Cortlynn Cadwallader; juniors Ashly Guillen and Hazel Mundt; sophomores Caden Brandt, Samuel Zuniga-Pocasangre, Isaac Baumert, Trinity Eggerman, Phoebe Glissman-Mayner, Gabriel Pinkson, Morgan Bunner, Sage Fernau, and Lilly Bunner; and freshmen Paige Kurpgeweit, Teagan Baumert, Rosie Guillen, Nathaly Pinonez, and Keeley Campbell.

Students from several area schools attended the clinic.  During their time at Boone Central, the students were directed by Mr. Jacob Ritter, who is the vocal music director at Columbus High School.

Students worked on five songs throughout the day: “Three Contemporary Latin Settings,” “The Wayfaring Strangers,” “Troika,” “Sisi Ni Moja,” and “Battle Hymn of the Republic.”

Sophomore Lilly Bunner said “The Boone Central Choir Clinic was a great experience for everyone who attended, not only because we got to meet new people, but we had the opportunity to sing with other schools and be directed by one of the best choir teachers in the state.”

Clarkson-Leigh music teacher Cindy Settje said “I am so glad we were able to attend the Choral Clinic this year especially since we weren’t able to because of Covid last year.  It is so helpful and fun to be able to sing with a large group of students from other schools. Our Clarkson-Leigh students once again shined as leaders even though the music was learned in a hurry after Christmas. I’m very proud of all the extra work they do.  I have worked with Jacob Ritter’s father (Fred Ritter) and sister (Celeste Ditter) at clinics, so it was a great opportunity to work with Jacob at this festival.  The students really enjoyed him.”
