Leigh FCCLA Qualifies Every Competitor For State!

FCCLA STAR districts took place in Madison on Wednesday, January 24th. There were 17 people from the Leigh FCCLA chapter that participated in STAR, and this year all participants from the Leigh chapter qualified for the state competition in April!  This is the first time in many years that every single competitor in the chapter has qualified!

STAR stands for Students Taking Action with Recognition. STAR events are competitive events that recognize FCCLA members for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation. There were 10 total chapters at the district FCCLA event this year. District 5 put on 26 events this year.

The FCCLA STAR participants are judged by two judges and a room consultant. They are judged using a rubric system and have the opportunity to earn either a Gold, Silver, or Bronze medal. The top two participants in each category level, who get above a Bronze, qualify to compete for state and attend the State Leadership Conference.

Cassi Rayback, a senior at Leigh High School said, “It was a very successful day in Madison. Everyone qualified for state and they all worked hard to complete their projects. We are excited to see what state brings!”

Leigh FCCLA’s chapter advisor Megan Hillen said, “It was so exciting to see the success of our student's STAR projects at the district competition. They put a lot of effort into their projects and scored well in their respective events. This is a great group to represent our chapter and school at the state competition in April!”
