FCCLA Members Attend Annual Conference

The annual FCCLA Peer Education Conference was held in Kearney, NE, on February 26, 2024. This year there were 322 students and advisors from 44 chapters attending this conference.

From the Leigh FCCLA Chapter, 5 members attended including Madilyn Freudenburg, Ella Higby, Emersyn Urban, Jocelyn Donnelly, and Halle Korth. These members attended the conference alongside their advisor, Megan Hillen.

This year’s state theme for the Peer Education Conference was, “Leave your Mark,” and the National Programs they focused on were Families First, Financial Fitness, and Student Body.

To start off the conference, the members of the State Peer Officer Team were all introduced. After that, the members split up into groups and attended many different sessions. Some of the sessions the members had an opportunity to attend were the “Family Leader Team” session where they learned about COMPASS; the Career Leader Team session where they learned about the 50, 20, 30 rule, which is how much money you should put into your savings, and all about debit and credit cards; and lastly the Community Leader Team session where they discussed suicide and how to prevent it.

The members also listened to a keynote speaker, Casey Molifua, from Hastings, Nebraska, where they learned what “Leave Your Mark” meant to him and how it carries out in his everyday life.

FCCLA Advisor, Mrs. Hillen said, “We had a great time at the Peer Education Conference in Kearney. This is a great conference for younger members to learn more about the FCCLA National Programs and how they can expand on their involvement in the organization.”

FCCLA member, Emersyn Urban said, “It was a great experience for us to learn more about FCCLA and learn about possible leadership positions that we can take part in to become more active in FCCLA.”

The members were excited to bring back all the knowledge that was instilled in them and implement it into their chapter for following years.
