Lexi Bruhn Competes as Lone Female JH Wrestling

Girls’ wrestling is a growing sport across Nebraska, and last year marked the first year that Leigh offered Patriot girls’ wrestling.

This year, Leigh again offered girls wrestling, but 8th grader Lexie Bruhn was the only Patriot girl wrestler, so in order to have others for her to wrestle against, Patriot girls’ wrestling combined with the Humphrey-Lindsay girls’ wrestling. Bruhn wrestled as a Patriot, but was coached by both Patriot and Bulldog coaches.

Bruhn ended the season earning 2nd in West Point, 2nd in Oakland-Craig, and 2nd in Lyons-Decator. Her final season record was 6-3.

JH Wrestling Coach Mr. Jorge Gomez said, “Lexie always worked hard in the wrestling room and understood the techniques that were shown to her. She really did pick up on things very quickly and adapted to situations very well. Lexie has a very bright future in wrestling.”

“This season was very fun and I learned a lot,” Bruhn said. “It was also fun to meet new people.”
