Cyclones Drop 1, Win 2

The Highway 91 Cyclones successfully won two of their three softball matches during the week of September 4.

The Cyclones began their week on September 5, playing South Sioux City on the Cardinals’ home field. The Cyclones blew the Cardinals out of the water, with a score of 12-1, claiming a victory.

After having a day to recuperate, they were back on the field for a triangular in West Point on Thursday, September 7.

Highway 91 faced their first opponent, West Point/Beemer, on the Cadets’ field. The teams were neck and neck up until the sixth inning, where the Cyclones finished the final inning with five batters reaching home plate. Highway 91 brought in another win, defeating West Point/Beemer 11-7.

The Cyclones played their final game of the week shortly after their first victory at the West Point field.

The Twin River softball team took the early lead, outscoring Highway 91 3-0 in the first inning. Though the Cyclones cut the Titans’ lead to just one in the fourth inning, it wasn’t enough, and Twin River finished out the game winning, 6-2.

Looking back at the week, assistant coach Megan Hillen said, “The successful trip to South Sioux City early in the week provided our team with the boost of confidence needed for our varsity triangular on Thursday. While we faced good competition versus Twin River, we were able to regain our confidence and earn a win against a good West Point-Beemer team.”

The Cyclones have a record of 6-12 after the games.
