Cyclones’ Season Comes to a Close

The Highway 91 Cyclones played their final games of their season on Saturday, October 7 in West Point.

The Cyclones faced tough competition in the class C-4 district tournament. Though tournament was delayed two days due to rain, the fifth seeded Highway 91 team was ready face the number four seed, Pierce. The Cyclones came out on top, winning 15-11.

Immediately after their win, the next game was set to begin. This time, the Cyclones took on a tough, number one seeded Guardian Angels Central Catholic team. Though they fought their hardest, Highway 91 couldn’t quite come up with the result they wanted, losing 2-15.

After the tournament, junior Meranda Kudrna said, “It was tough for us as a team when the tournament kept getting pushed back day after day because of the rain. We weren’t really sure when we would play. It was also difficult to play game after game with no break. We didn’t get the result we were hoping for, but in the end we gave it our all and played our hardest. We had a good season altogether.”

After the tournaments, Highway 91 ended their season with a record of 12-17.

Assistant coach Megan Hillen talked regarding the Cyclones’ season, “District play was a bit of a whirlwind for the Cyclone softball team this year. After two postponements and a change from double-elimination to single-elimination, we headed to West Point to face a team we had played three times previously. Those games always make me nervous, they can go either way and it was proven to be a challenge. After three hours, and nine innings our girls were excited to have made it to the second round. Unfortunately, advancing to the second round meant playing back-to-back games. The first game took a lot of energy out of our girls and they couldn't hang on against a strong GACC team. I am very proud of our girls and the success they had this season. It was another great Cyclone softball season and we appreciate all the support! “
