Cyclones Finish Season With 14-16 Record

After two months, four tournaments, and 30 games, the Cyclones Softball Team wrapped up a very accomplished season with a final record of 14-16.

The Cyclones had districts on October 4th and 5th in Wayne. There were seven teams at districts: Boone Central/Newman Grove, Highway 91, Madison/Humphrey/Lindsay, O’Neill, Pierce, Ponca, and Wayne.

With tough competition at districts, the Cyclones played very well with a record of 3-2. Wayne won districts and went on to win Class C State Softball as well.

The first game, the Cyclones played O’Neill. After winning a very close game in extra innings, they played the undefeated Wayne Blue Devils. The Cyclones tried to hang with them, but just couldn’t.

The team then had to play Madison/Humphrey/Lindsay. The Cyclones only got half way through the game when they had to postpone the rest of it until the next day because of the weather.

Friday the Cyclones came with a winning mindset. They took care of business and won the Humphrey/Lindsay/Madison game. Then the team had to play Ponca. This was a very evenly matched, back and forth game, but the Cyclones won and advanced on.

To see who would advance to the championship game, Hwy 91 had to play Boone Central/Newman Grove. This was a hard-fought game, but the Cyclones came up just short.

The Hwy 91 Cyclones got 3rd at districts. This is the best they have ever done at districts!

Throughout the course of the season there was highs and lows, but the Cyclones did a great job of battling through the tough times and always remembered to have fun.

Senior Meranda Kudrna said, “Overall I think the season was pretty good. I am very happy with how we all worked together this year and had fun as a team. Getting third at districts for the first time as a program was great. I am excited to come back next year and watch the team.”

Head coach Adam Indra said, “It was a very fun and entertaining season. It was nice to see the team develop as the season went on. It all came together in districts as the girls played very well. The seniors Catherine Kempf and Meranda Kudrna, did a great job leading the team and putting them in a successful place not only this year, but leading into next year. I want to thank the coaches and the team for a great year. It was a blast!”

Thank you to the seniors for an amazing season and coaches for getting us to where we needed to be. Great Season Cyclones Softball Team!!
