Busy Start to Week for Girls’ Golf

The girls’ golf team had a busy start to the week right before their conference competition. This included a quad at Club 91 on Monday, September 18 and a dual in Stanton on Tuesday September 19.

The teams that competed in the quad were Oakland-Craig, West-Point/Beemer, Stanton, and Schuyler. The Patriots had ten golfers compete. The top five golfers for the day were Brianne Kuhr shooting a 58, Emily Stender shooting a 59, Paige Kurpgeweit shooting a 63, Ella Urban shooting a 64, and Delanie Erwin shooting a 64.

On Tuesday the Patriots took 14 golfers to Stanton for a dual. The top five golfers were Emily Stender shooting a 55, Emilie Hajek shooting a 60, Delanie Erwin shooting a 65, Halle Korth shooting 66 and Brianne Kuhr shooting a 69.

The Patriots were 2 strokes away from taking first in the dual.

Freshman Halle Korth said, “We didn't beat Stanton on Tuesday but we hope to beat them on Monday in the conference competition.”

Coach Morfeld said, “These golfers put in a lot of time at competitions recently; some of our golfers competed three times in four days.  It was clear they were getting tired (mentally and physically) by Tuesday.  I've been really impressed with some recent personal bests, including Emilie Hajek shooting 112 (on 18 holes) on Saturday and Emily Stender getting a 55 (on 9 holes) on Tuesday.  There's a lot of competition for the five varsity spots, which is suspenseful to watch week to week.”
