The Patriot Wrestling team has had a busy season this year. The last few weeks have been very eventful for the Clarkson-Leigh Wrestlers, traveling to many different schools to compete.

On Saturday, December 19, the Patriots traveled to Wayne for a full day of wrestling. They competed against 14 teams. Clarkson-Leigh finished seventh as a team overall. The Wrestling team gave full effort throughout the day, with three kids managing to medal.

Freshman, Dylan Higby, said, “Going into Wayne we knew it was going to be a tough tournament, so we came out and gave our best effort to try and win as many matches as possible.”

Individual Records for the Tournament:

Morgan Bunner: 1-4 (4th Place)

Bryce Jurgensen: 4-1 (2nd Place)

Isaac Baumert: 1-2

Dylan Higby: 2-1 (2nd Place)

Ryan Brichacek: 0-2

Nathan Bahns: 0-2

Jaden Stoklasa: 1-2

Jackson Koehn: 1-2

Andrew Rivera: 0-2

On Tuesday, December 22, the Patriots had a round robin at Osceola. They were six other teams at this meet. The Patriots finished second as a team. They unfortunately lost to Cross County in an ultimate tie breaker after the score was tied 36-36.

The Patriots did not let that stop them though because they defeated Nebraska Christian 36-18 and beat Shelby in a close dual 30-24. The Wrestling team also was able to pull off great wins against Fullerton with a score of 48-18 and against Dorchester with a score of 54-0.

On Saturday, December 30, the Patriot Wrestling team traveled to Norfolk Catholic for the holiday quad. There were three other teams there which included Wayne, Guardian Angels Central Catholic, and Norfolk Catholic. To start out the night, the Patriots had a tough dual against Norfolk Catholic. The Patriots were defeated with a score of 54-30.

The second dual of the day for the Patriots was another tough competition against Wayne, being defeated with a final score of 54-27. The night ended better for Clarkson-Leigh, where they were able to take the win over Guardian Angels Central Catholic 42-30. Overall, the Patriots stayed strong throughout the whole evening.

On Saturday, January 2, the Clarkson-Leigh Wrestling team took a trip to Shelby-Rising City for another great day of wrestling. The Patriots battled against nine other teams. Overall, the Patriot wrestlers finished eighth as a team. Plainview won the tournament.

Head Coach, Tyler Reeves, said, “We had a solid day overall, and we managed to take home five medals. We had a couple of kids out and some of them wrestled up a weight class, but still wrestled hard. Some kids had some quality wins, and we finished the day strong after a rough start.”

Individual Records for the Tournament:

Bryce Jurgensen: 3-2 (3rd Place)

Morgan Bunner: 1-2 (3rd Place)

Isaac Baumert: 0-5 (5th Place)

James Groteluschen: 3-2 (3rd Place)

Dylan Higby: 4-1 (3rd Place)

Nathan Bahns: 2-3 (6th Place)

Andrew Rivera: 1-4 (6th Place)

The Patriot Wrestling Team has had a great few weeks of competition and hopes to finish the season well. We wish them good luck!
