Patriots Finish Seventh at Conference Wrestling

By: Sydney Reeves, a sophomore at Leigh High School

With a great season of wrestling for the Patriots, they only have Sub-Districts and Districts left and hope to advance to state. On Saturday, January 30, the Patriot Wrestling Team traveled to Pender for the EHC Wrestling Tournament.

This tournament consisted of 13 teams including the Patriots. The Patriot wrestlers had a very successful day even though they competed in some tough matches. The Clarkson-Leigh wrestlers stayed confident and mentally tough throughout the whole day. They managed to finish in seventh place as a team.

Head Coach Tyler Reeves said, “Overall, we wrestled really well. We are peaking at the right time and closing the gap on losses we had earlier in the season or beating guys we lost to earlier. It’s easy to be worn down at this point in the season, but we continue to get better physically and mentally. The boys are slowly building confidence and are becoming tougher.”

“We wrestled a lot of hard matches but I thought we handled them well. I think we did great overall as a team,” said freshman Nathan Bahns.

The Patriot Wrestling Team’s season is almost at its end and they hope to finish their season at the State Wrestling Tournament.
