By: Gracie Eisenmann, a sophomore at Leigh High School

34 members from the Leigh-Clarkson Chapter had the opportunity to attend the District 5 FCCLA Leadership Conference held at CCC in Columbus on Monday, October 11. Members spent the day around campus with 10 other chapters from District 5. The theme for this year’s conference was “Fall Back Into FCCLA”.

Members started their morning off with donuts and juice while they listened to the keynote presentation given by Revolution, which focused on dating abuse prevention. During the “Big Breakout” sessions, chapters attended a presentation on Social Media by Amy Schantz of East Central Health, Team Building led by Jared Severson of Schuyler and lunch.

At DLC, students also attended the district meeting. One representative from every chapter made up the district officer team. The Leigh-Clarkson representative was Macy Clausen. Macy is currently serving as the Vice President of DLC Awards.

Members then chose a small afternoon breakout session to attend. These included Jesse Pfeiffer from the Nebraska State Patrol, Renee Sayer from CHI Health, Susan Nissen on Upholstery, John Valasek from the National Guard, Kelsey Andrews from All About You Adoption, Cheri Vetick from Paws and Claws Pet Adoption, Natalie Brabec on Leadership in Schools, Tessa Cherry on FCCLA Opportunities, Gina Alba on Would you Rather?: Supermarket Edition, and Marissa Bruce, who prepared SPOT in the SPOTlight.

Leigh-Clarkson Chapter President and also State Officer Natalie Brabec said, "DLC was a great experience for all of the FCCLA members to have a refresher about what FCCLA is and what FCCLA all offers. We also were able to listen to great sessions and a keynote from Revolution."

Leigh-Clarkson FCCLA Advisor, Mrs. Megan Hillen, said, “It was great to see the chapters from Nebraska FCCLA's District 5 gather together to expand their leadership skills for the first time since the fall of 2019. It was a fun-filled day of sessions and activities that expanded their knowledge of the organization and increased excitement for the year ahead.”
