First Home FB Game Ends In Victory
The varsity football team came out victorious over the Pender Pendragons by a final score of 36-29 in a home game in Clarkson on September 1, 2023,
After losing the season opener the week before, the Patriots were craving a win. The Patriots took a 14-7 lead after the first quarter. The second quarter was very much a defensive battle as both teams were only able to muster a touchdown apiece, although the Patriots were the only ones to score on their extra point conversion giving them a 22-13 lead at halftime.
The third quarter was a little slow for the Patriots on the offensive side of the ball as they were unable to score, but defensively, they held Pender to 8 points.
Clinging to a 22-21 lead going into the fourth quarter, the Patriots battled for two touchdowns, converting on one of those, and halted the Pender offense to only one more touchdown, which they converted on, for a close win of 36-29.
After the game, Head Coach Jim Clarkson said, “It was a good win against a quality Pender team. We played better than in week one, gave up a couple big plays but were able to have a good ball control offense and get an important victory.”
Senior Dylan Higby led the team with 241 rushing yards and two touchdowns. said, “Going into the game we knew they were gonna be pretty tough but we made some bigger plays to get the job done.”
The Patriots will play their next game in Clarkson against Bancroft-Rosalie on September 9.
