Panther FB Starts 2-0!
Launch the media gallery 1 playerOn Friday, September 4th the Leigh Panthers were back in black as they played their first home game as the Panthers in 15 years. They took on the Madison Dragons in an electric environment and were victorious. The score was 48-14.
In the first quarter the Panthers were first on the board with Blake Loseke punching in a 45-yd rushing touchdown. Then the Panthers would be held to one touchdown after that and ended the first quarter 14-0. The offense was led by Blake Loseke and Aidan Ellsworth. The defense flew around and made vital stops to shut down the Dragons offense.
In the second quarter the Panthers tacked on 22 more points. Madison started with the ball, but the Panthers defense held them out of the endzone. Blake Loseke led the offense on a march down the field. Then he caught a screen pass and ran it in for six. On the flip side of the ball, Easton Brabec dropped the hammer, forcing a fumble and the Panthers defense jumped on it, forcing a turnover and a Panther first down.
The next defensive possession Blake Loseke made a leaping grab to get his second interception of the year. But the Panthers offense ran out of time, leading 36-0 at halftime.
In the second half, the Panthers kept doing what they did on defense and stopped a fake punt on fourth down. They had multiple fourth down stops and then used them to their advantage to go up 48-0 on the Dragons. But the Madison Dragons wouldn’t give up though, as tthey scored 14 against the Panther reserves in the second half while holding the Panthers to 0 in the fourth. The final score was 48-14, with the Leigh Panthers grabbing their first home game win in 15 years.
Junior quarterback Easton Brabec said, “We had a great first win at home and worked as a team and allowed our underclassmen to finish.”
Assistant coach Mr. Cole Fischer, “We saw improvement from week 1, but there are still a few things we need to fix. We look forward to another opportunity next week. It was great to see the young guys get some quality time. We also appreciate the support from the fans and community.”
