Patriots Win 1st Round of Playoffs!
On October 19, the 9th seeded Clarkson-Leigh Patriots battled the 8th seeded Johnson County Central Thunderbirds in the 1st round of the NSAA Playoffs. The Patriots won against the Thunderbirds in a close score 38-34.
The Patriots jumped out to a quick lead in the first quarter, going ahead 14-0. The second quarter was an evenly matched battle with both teams putting up a touchdown and two-point conversion. After halftime, the Patriots outscored the Thunderbirds by 4 points, but the Birds answered back in the fourth, shutting out the Patriots and putting two touchdowns on the board.
Thankfully, this wasn’t enough for Johnson County to overcome the Patriots.
Senior Nathan Bahns stated, “We played and worked well as a team and we will try to communicate to improve and advance in the playoffs.”
Assistant Coach Jarrod Bazata stated, “It was a very well fought game. We had some adversity and we were finally able to overcome it and come out on top. It was great to see the boys fight for that win and is hopefully a great motivator for this next week.”
This brings the boys’ record to 6-3 on the year.
