Senior Spotlight: Sofia Hake

Sofia Jane Hake was born on October 18, 2007, at Columbus Community Hospital. Her parents are Kevin and Tracy Hake, and she has a younger brother, Korbin Hake, 14, who is an 8th grader at Leigh.

She is the granddaughter of the late Archie and Doris (Fiala) Hake, the late Dwane Mick, and Jane (Semin) Mick, from Bellwood.

Rounding out her family, Sofia has 6 cats named Archie, Patches, Peanut, Jiggy, Kink, and Tiger; a dog named Tic Tac; and a calf named Mocha.

Outside of school, she used to keep herself busy by teaching Sunday school at her church. Her hobbies are farming, arts and crafts, journaling, cooking, walking, singing, gardening, and reading. She also loves working on her family farm and babysitting in the summer.

Sofia has had many honors throughout high school. Her biggest high school accomplishments include winning Student of the Month 3 times, making A-B honor roll, having above a 3.5 GPA, and getting perfect attendance.

In school, she has participated in Choir for 4 years, Vision Board for 3 Years, Golf for 2 years, and FBLA and One-Act for 1 year. This year, she is involved in one act, golf, and choir.

Her favorite high school memory is eating lunch at Normas with half the class after the ACT, and random talks with the class.

Sofia’s future plans are to attend Northeast Community College and major in agriculture, then come back to work on her family farm. In 10-15 years, she sees herself in her beloved town of Creston working on the family farm and living near the family farm with a dog by her side.

Three goals that she has in life are going to Hawaii, getting a white Chevy Silverado, and going to Atlantis resort. If she could travel anywhere in the world, she would travel to Hawaii. Three words that she would use to describe herself are caring, hardworking, and peaceful.

If she won the lottery, she would donate a lot of the money to organizations and charities that mean a lot to her, like animal shelters, the American Heart Association, and St Jude. She would also give money to her family and fix up an abandoned farm.

Sofia says her most embarrassing moment was saying “Diarrhea Jane” instead of “Diary of Jane” in front of the teacher and a group of friends. Another embarrassing moment was when she fainted after getting her seventh-grade shots.

Her biggest pet peeve is when people are in her personal space, and her biggest bad habit is listening to the same song multiple times in a row until she doesn’t like it anymore. Another one of her bad habits is ranting over little things until it makes her more irritated.

Sofia’s favorite movie is Epic, and her favorite TV show is Baking Championships or Survivor. Her favorite sports team is Nebraska Volleyball. Her favorite food is yogurt with peanut butter, granola, banana, chia seeds, honey, cacao nibs, or chocolate chips. Her favorite restaurant is Stack-n-Steak or Tropical Smoothie Cafe.

Sofia admires her parents because they have lived a life of working, but still make time her and her brother. They are kind to everyone, even when they are having a bad day.

Her advice to underclassmen is to imagine yourself being where you want to be, even if you just imagining being in a house, under a warm blanket, watching your favorite TV show or movie. She says to do this on a bad day because it has helped her through some rough days.

Congratulations, Sofia!
