Class of 2021 Senior Spotlight: Emily Loseke

By: Kayden Schumacher, a senior at Leigh High School

Kind. Hard-working. Smiley. These are three words that are often used to describe senior Emily Lynn Loseke.

Emily was born on August 15, 2002. Emily’s parents are Ben and Pam Loseke, and Emily has a brother, Blake, who is 12 years old. Emily’s grandparents are Rick and Judy Loseke of Leigh and Joe and Sylvia Moody of Ainsworth.

Emily has been highly involved in many extracurricular activities during her high school career. Emily participated in FCCLA, FBLA, journalism, one-act, track and field, art, and basketball for four years; yearbook and National Honor Society for three years; and speech, band and volleyball for two years.

Not only has Emily given up time for school-based activities, but she has also been a member of numerous clubs within the community. Emily has been a member of Allstars 4-H club and a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and youth group for four years. Emily has also been an active member in the Leigh Youth Advisory Committee for three years, where she currently serves as president.

With these activities have come many accomplishments and honors. Emily has consistently been on the A honor roll throughout her high school career. Emily has also made some huge accomplishments athletically, as she has been a state qualifier for track and field her freshman and sophomore year. She even medaled at state track her sophomore year. Emily has also broken Patriot track records in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, and the 4x100 meter relay.

Emily has also been a state FCCLA STAR medalist and a state FBLA competitive event finalist. Emily has held officer/leadership positions in FCCLA, FBLA, yearbook, one-act, Youth Advisory Council, and 4-H. Lastly, Emily was a Cornhusker Girls State and HOBY delegate.

As Emily reflected on her high school career, she recalled that her proudest high school accomplishment was her “Stand Up & Be Kind” project. This included the Leigh Secret Kindness Agency with the 6th grade class and kindness competitions with grades 3-12 and other schools’ sixth grade classes.

Emily’s favorite subjects in school are English and art, and Emily’s favorite food is cookies (except oatmeal raisin). Emily’s top three goals are to inspire someone, to be a fluent speaker of another language, and to climb the Leigh water tower.

When asked what she would do if she won the lottery, Emily responded “I would save enough money for my family and I, and then I’d donate the rest to Leigh and the school, my church/mission work, and cancer research”.

Emily recalled all of her high school memories. She said, “I’ll remember the little moments with my classmates and teachers in school and obviously the big moments and accomplishments. Most importantly though, I’ll remember the people. I’ll never forget the support I’ve received over the years from people in the community, school, church, family, and everyone who has supported me. It truly means a lot, and I’ll never forget it”.

Emily’s favorite hobbies outside of school are giving service to the community, church, and school. She also enjoys talking and meeting new people, reading, running, and doing anything art related.

When asked where she sees herself in 10-15 years, Emily said “I really don’t know where I see myself, which is both exciting and a little nerve wracking. I have career plans and goals, but I don’t really know where they’ll lead me; all I know is I’ll be serving in Christian church work and education.”

Lastly, Emily’s advice to the underclassmen is to “try to enjoy and make the most out of every day. Get involved and make real connections with people. Then, when it comes time to graduate, you won’t be sad it's over, but thankful and happy it happened. And remember #BeKind.”
