Class of 2022 Senior Spotlight: Makenna Held
By: Logan Schroeder, a senior at Leigh High School
This week’s senior spotlight for the LHS Class of 2022 is Makenna Rae Held.
Makenna was born on February 2, 2004, in Columbus Community Hospital in Nebraska, to Keal and Heather Held. She has two siblings which are her brother Layton, who is in 5th grade, and her sister Kammy, who is a freshman.
Her grandparents are Mike and Joy Malena from Leigh and Lorraine and the late Robert Held also from Leigh. She also has two pets, a dog Maggie and an orange cat Simba.
Throughout high school, Makenna has participated in FFA, FBLA, One-Act, volleyball, basketball, choir, and journalism for four years; FCCLA and band for two years, and track for one year. She is also the president of the Leigh Youth Advisory Committee. While in high school, she has earned honors in volleyball, one-act, choir, FFA, basketball, and track. She has also been a part of the National Honor Society, been Student of the Month, and received the David Distinguished Scholarship and the Chancellor's Leadership Scholarship, both to UNL.
Makenna’s proudest high school accomplishment has been that she has made it to state in basketball once, volleyball twice, and one-act twice while in high school.
When Makenna is not in school, her favorite hobbies are shopping, working out, reading, hanging out with friends, going out to eat, and watching movies.
Makenna’s future college plans are to go to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to major in Accounting and minor in Agribusiness.
In 10-15 years, she hopes to move back home working a good job. She also hopes to be married with a nice house and 3 kids. If one day she won the lottery, she would buy a cabin in Colorado with a hot tub and a dog. She would use the rest of her money to pay for the rest of her siblings' college education and put the rest in a savings account. Things on her bucket list include graduating college with a good GPA, traveling to a different country, and buying a nice car.
Some of Makenna’s favorite things include the TV shows are Virgin River and Longmire and her favorite movie is The Blind Side. Her favorite subject in school is trigonometry, her favorite restaurant is El Mezcal, and her favorite sports team is the Huskers. If she could travel anywhere in the world, she would go to Hawaii or Jamaica.
Makenna says her most embarrassing moment was when the One-Act team performed in Schuyler and the spinning platform spun at the wrong time, hitting her and making her fall in the middle of the performance.
Makenna says her biggest bad habits are chewing her nails and playing with her hair.
The people Makenna admires most in her life are her parents because they are hardworking and do everything for her and her siblings.
Three words that best describe Makenna are reliable, fun, and hard working. Her advice to underclassmen would be to cherish your time here at LHS because before you know it, it'll be gone.
We wish Makenna good luck, and we hope that she succeeds in all of her endeavors!
