Class of 2022 Senior Spotlight: Kevin Becerril-Tejeda

By: Isaac Rodenburg, a senior at Leigh High School

This week's senior spotlight for the LHS Class of 2022 is none other than Kevin Becerril-Tejeda.

Kevin was born on October 18, 2003, in San Bernardino, California. His parents are Luz Juan Becerril. He has four siblings, Juan (28), Maria (27), Roque (17), and Jose (10). His grandparents are Maria and late Pablo Becerril from Mexico and Maria and Manuel Tejeda, also from Mexico. Kevin has no pets, but one day he really wants to have a pet hippo named Marlin.

School activities Kevin has participated in include One-Act play for 4 years.  He has also been a member of the Leigh Youth Advisory Committee for 3 years and a faithful mini-mart staff member for two years.  Some honors he earned include “Student of the Month” three times and Homecoming King.

His proudest high school accomplishment is “being a proud Mexican,” being Homecoming King, and passing all of his classes. Another one of his favorite memories is making his Oreo brownie ice cream cake for Mr. V’s demonstration speech his freshman year and everyone liking it.

His future plan is to obtain an Associate’s Degree from Northeast Community College and go on to become a cop in the future.

Kevin says that if he won a fortune in the lottery, he would go to Las Vegas and go to the clubs.  But if he could travel anywhere in the world, he would go to Europe “to drive fast cars and go to European parties.”

Kevin is a pretty good-natured guy who gets along with everyone, but his biggest pet peeve is when people try to argue with him when they are wrong and also procrastination. Three words to describe Kevin are humorous, hard-working, and “a guy who loves to have a good time.”

When asked where he sees himself in 10-15 years, Kevin said, “Sitting in a cop car eating a box of glazed donuts on the side of a busy highway watching for speeders.”

In addition to becoming a cop, three goals on Kevin’s bucket list include getting a hot wife, becoming rich, and skydiving.

On a more serious note, the person that Kevin says he admires is his dad. He admires his dad “because he works his butt off at work no matter whether it’s rain, snow, super hot, or super cold.  He still works and never takes a day off. If he’s sick or something hurts, he always shows up to work. He is just a great guy.”

Kevin’s favorite hobbies are working at the mini mart, hanging out with friends, and eating. His favorite subject in school is aiding for Mr. Cash in PE because he loves that he gets to play with his brother Jose's class. His favorite movies are the Fast and the Furious series.  Kevin’s favorite song is “Pursuit of Happiness” by Kid Cudi. Kevin’s favorite sports team is the Las Vegas Raiders. His favorite restaurant is Rivera taco truck in Columbus and he says that he is basically his own chef, so the food that he makes is also his favorite.

The most embarrassing moment of Kevin’s is when after working in a concession stand during a basketball game, he walked in the gym and tripped and fell in front of everyone. Then that Monday morning after it happened, he got an email from Mr. Cole Fischer of the security footage of him falling.

Now that Kevin’s high school days are coming to an end, his best advice to underclassmen is: “You only live once, so have fun on the weekends with friends and make lots of memories.”
