FCCLA Attends District Leadership Conference

There was excitement in the air, and with the final “Rock, paper, scissors, shoot,” Kelsey Moore became runner-up of the icebreaker challenge at this year’s FCCLA District Leadership Conference (DLC).

On October 15, 33 members of the Leigh-Clarkson FCCLA chapter attended the 2018 District 5 Leadership Conference at Central Community College in Columbus.

At the beginning of the day, there was a meeting with the district officers. Our chapter helped install the new district officers of the coming year, and sophomore Cassidy Hoffman is our district’s new Vice-President of Outreach.

Afterwards, everyone listened to keynote speaker Sidnee Pavel who spoke about human trafficking, and later in the day members had the chance to speak with the Center for Survivors, which is based in Columbus to help those who’ve been abused. They taught students different ways to get involved and do something about bullying and abusive relationships.

Before the day was over, everyone could go to different breakout sessions of their choice. The sessions included presentations on vaping, fast food facts, hands only CPR, time management, drunk driving, running for a higher office with the State Vice President of Development, and banking in 2018.

Cassidy Hoffman, our chapter’s District Representative/Public Relations Officer said, "It was super fun and interesting to go to DLC for the fourth time now! Every time we go down there, I feel that we gain new bits and pieces of leadership skills. Being the district officer from Leigh-Clarkson was very nerve wracking, but also a good experience because I gained more speaking skills and interacted with other district officers from various towns!”
