Pats Prevail in Five-Set Thriller!

The Patriots were ready to perform for the Top 10 matchup versus the Fremont Archbishop Bergan Knights on Tuesday, September 26, 2023.

The Patriots started off the night well by the C team winning in two sets.

After the C team game, JV set the tone by coming out and taking the win against the Knights, 25-13 and 25-21 in two sets.

The undefeated Patriots knew the varsity game against the 17-5 Knights was going to be a hard matchup, and they were ready to take on the challenge. This was by far the hardest competition of the year, and their energy was what helped them take the win.

This game went to five sets, making it the first time the Patriots have lost a set all season! The Patriots won the second, third, and fifth sets, while set 1 and set 4 were very close. The Patriots came out and dominated in the fifth set, jumping out to a 13-2 lead before eventually allowing the Knights to put 8 points on the board.

It was truly an all-around team effort in this win.  Senior Chloe Hanel posted a whopping 27 kills off 70 swings and Brynn Settje and Gracie Eisenmann were next with 12 and 11. Izzy Hollatz and Kendall Schneider recorded 31 and 24 set assists respectively. Settje led the team in digs with 26, while Hanel added 21 and Eisenmann added 18.  The Patriots dominated the net with Hanel leading the team with 8 blocks and senior Tanyn Larson adding another 5.

Assistant Coach Mr. Brester said, “This was a huge win for the Patriots, and definitely a fun one for sure. The girls did a great job of competing and making it a team effort. The C team and JV girls did an amazing job playing, as well as cheering on the Varsity team; this really helped them have energy to go out there and compete.”

“We knew going into this game that it was going to be a tough matchup and they were going to challenge us,” senior outside hitter Gracie Eisenmann said. “I thought we all played well together and we didn’t let the mistakes get to us which ultimately led us to winning in the fifth set. The fans also helped create energy, and made a huge impact on the game.”

We wish the 19-0 Patriots good luck for the rest of their season!
