Patriots Secure Big Win over HDC
After losing their season opener to Columbus Lakeview, the Clarkson-Leigh Patriot volleyball team was hyped up and headed down the highway to face off against the Howells-Dodge Jaguars on September 2, 2025.
With all three teams, varsity came out with a clean sweep in all three sets beating the Jaguars. The C team won their game with two winning sets, and JV fell short winning one out of three sets.
In the varsity game, although the last two sets were intense and tight, the Patriots swept the Jaguars in all three sets with scores of 25-17, 26-24, and 25-21.
Leading the team in kills, Ava Kasik and Maizie Stoklasa both pounded home 10, with Kendal Schneider having 19 assists. Junior Vylet Hollatz also contributed with 30 digs.
"Going into the Howells-Dodge game, we knew they were going to be competitive. We struggled with our passing throughout the game, but we came together as a team to find a way to get a Patriot win in a quick three-set game," said junior Vylet Hollatz.
Coach Brianne Bachman said, “It was a great night of volleyball against our rival Howells-Dodge. The evening started with our C team setting the tone, earning a strong win in two straight sets. Our JV team followed with a competitive match, battling hard but falling just short in a close 1–2 loss. Varsity capped off the night with an impressive three-set sweep. We had strong offense from many hitters, especially Ava and Maizie, who consistently put the ball away. Our defense was extremely solid as well, with players making key saves throughout the match to keep rallies alive. Overall, it was a great performance for us, and one that showed the strength and unity of our program at all levels.”
This year’s volleyball team is led by seniors Ava Kasik, Kendall Schneider, and Karly Wendt; along with juniors Maizie Stoklasa, Ava Baumert, Gracie Sortino, Claire Holoubek, Reese Wietfeld, Vylet Hollatz, Kyla Clarkson, and Ella Baumert.
