FFA Members Gain Experience at Greenhand Day

When joining a club or chapter of some kind, a person can be unaware of what is to come. One thing the Leigh FFA Chapter participates in to help explain what being a chapter member is all about is District Greenhand Day.

This annual event took place on September 17 at Central Community College. 11 of our chapter members attend this event: 3 chapter officers, 2 sophomores, and 6 freshmen. The officers attending included Luke Eisenmann, Vice President; Kyle McMullin, Sentinel; and Tyce Larson, Junior Advisor. Non-officer members attending included Madisyn Lich, Emily Waterman, Briggs Klug, Layton Held, Avery Kuester, Jurnee Mullenhoff, Wyatt Eisenmann, and Trent Olson.

At this event the members learned what events they can compete in and got to interact with other chapters in the district. Freshman Jurnee Mullenhoff stated, “Greenhand Day was a lot of fun with great activities and the chance to meet new people, and it helped everyone think about what they might like to compete in”.

This was something that not only teaches the new members events they may participate in but gets them out there to new and more ideas of events, whether it is something they have heard about before and competed in already, or something that they would like to try. For all underclassmen, the first few years of events are going out and trying everything. It doesn’t matter if you have never done it before, but take that opportunity to learn more and be more involved as a member.

Briggs Klug, freshman member, commented, “It was a really fun experience, I learned a lot, and can’t wait to compete in many different events these next few years.”
