Girls’ Golf Success at Home Course Triangular
Patriot girls’ varsity golf took home their first team gold of the season Thursday, the 11th of September at their home course! With pleasant fall weather for the day, Clarkson-Leigh competed against the Stanton Mustangs and Tri-City Thunder for a simple nine-hole triangular and were largely successful. The Patriots had a combined team score of 215, placing first in the meet, with Stanton trailing close behind with a 216, and TC totaling 258.
Individual placing went well for the home team, too, with Emilie Hajek and Halle Korth both scoring 51, ending up in a four-way tie for second place with Lydia Felber of TC and Emerson Vogel of Stanton. Taking first place individually was Chloe Belt of Stanton with a 50. Other scores for Clarkson-Leigh include Hadley Dlouhy with a 56 and Sophia Morfeld and Liz Hoffman each with a 57, all contributing to the varsity scoring. Shaleigh McAllister shot 62, Hannah Martensen 64, Madi Freudenberg 76, Sofia Hake 84, and Mia Glissman-Mayner 87, totaling up the JV to 286.
“I felt the girls did really well yesterday! Most of them improved their averages and seemed to enjoy the day. Our play is definitely getting smoother all the way around,” stated Coach Held. “Highlights were that the Varsity won this triangular beating out Stanton by one point! As a team they dropped 8 strokes from the.previous triangular! Senior, Emilie Hajek and Junior, Halle Korth were in a four-way tie for 2nd place. All of our varsity members scored in the top 10, which is also great!”
Junior Halle Korth said, “The girls’ golf team had a great time competing in the triangular that was held in Leigh. The Clarkson Leigh Patriots ended up getting first as a team. Emilie Hijak and I were included in a four-way tie for second, which was really exciting. There couldn't have been a better outcome for this triangular and I can't see what the rest of the season has in store for us!”
