New Math Teacher Brings Lots of Experience

By: Jacob Martensen, a freshman at Leigh High School

One of the new additions to the Leigh High School staff this year is Mr. Jeff Korus, the new high school math teacher.

Mr. Korus is excited to begin his year at Leigh, but he has been in numerous school districts before here.  He previously taught at Humphrey St. Francis, Madison, Grand Island Northwest, Elkhorn, and Emerson.

In addition to teaching math, Mr. Korus coaches junior high football and assistant high school track.

The reason he wanted to be a math teacher is to share his knowledge of problem solving.

He grew up by Platte Center before moving to Columbus.  He went to college at Wayne State and Doane.

When asked what he thinks about Leigh students so far is that they are “very polite.” Mr. Korus is excited to get to know everyone and to get settled in his new role.

He and his family live in West Point.  His wife, Monica, is a massage therapist.  He has five kids: Bella, who is an 8th grader, Grace, who is a 6th grader, Evelyn, who is a first grader, Isaac, who is in preschool, and Olivia, who is 18 months.

Mr. Korus keeps pretty busy with school and his family, but in spare time his favorite activities are gardening and collecting action figures.

Welcome to Leigh, Mr. Korus!
