Stanton Snaps Patriots’ Undefeated Record

In an exciting night of intense, up-and-down volleyball, the Lady Patriots defeated the Dragons and lost to the Mustangs at the triangular in Madison on Thursday, August 30th.

The JVs first played Madison and beat them in two sets. Next, they played Stanton and lost in three.

Varsity first played Madison on their home court. The Patriots beat them in the first two sets 25-15 and 25-13.

They then squared off against Stanton for the second game of the night. The Mustangs won by four points the first set.

The next set was a fierce battle back and forth between the two teams, but Stanton captured it in the end with a heartbreaking score of 22-25.

“Thursday night's triangular had our Patriot girls working hard,” Assistant Coach Briana Wietfeld said. “The girls came out ready to compete. We saw some good things in the victory against Madison and some hard work during the game against Stanton.

“We did a great job defending Stanton. We were always right there with them in the back-and-forth battle. The girls did some really great things!”

Senior setter, Kaegan Held said, “We played well both games, but I wish we would have gotten Stanton. Every year coming into this tournament, we’re confident and we play with Stanton well. Now we just need to finish. I’m looking forward to my last year and I’m excited to see what we can do!”

Hannah Kasik led the team in kills on the night, earning 14 between the two games.  Ashlynn Novotny and Cassidy Hoffman each had 3 stuff blocks. Halee Steffensmeier had 14 digs, and Kaegan Held recorded 34 set assists on the night.

The Patriots’ record is now 2-1.
