JH VBall Ends Season

The Patriot junior high volleyball team ended their season recently with games on October 2nd and October 9th.

On Monday, October 2nd, the girls played against Howells-Dodge. The B team won both of their sets.  The A team won their first set but lost the other two.

Seventh-grader Averi Clausen said, “Both teams played great. The B team won and put a great end to the season. A team unfortunately did not take home the victory. It was a great game and each team learned a lot.”

Coach Seth Cash said, “The night’s games were filled with highs and lows. We started off strong with straight set wins on the B team, but struggled to finish on the A team. The A team had a close, hard-fought set 1 win, but lost a close second. After the second set, we just struggled to shake off mistakes and close out. Overall, it was a very winnable game, but passing and service errors proved to be the deciding factor.”

B- 26-20, 25-21 (WON)

A- 25-21, 20-25, 10-15 (LOST)

Then on Oct. 9, Clarkson-Leigh did their best for the last two games of the season. They played against Stanton and Humphrey St. Francis in a triangular in Clarkson.

In the game against Stanton, the JH volleyball team lost to Stanton in two sets. They tried their best to beat Stanton. The CL VB team beat Humphrey St. Francis in 2 sets.

Seventh-grader Avery Kuester said, “In the first game, we fell a little short against a tough Stanton team. The game against Humphrey St. Francis I feel like we really worked together as a team, and we came out with the win! It was a really fun way to end our season!”

“There are reloading years and there are rebuilding years, this year was the latter of the two,” Mr. Cash said. “We had a very young A team with only two 8th graders in the starting rotation by the end of the season. As a result, we had some struggles against more experienced teams. This year did allow for those younger players to get a greater amount of reps and game time. All coaches saw both game and skill improvements across all teams this season. I am happy with the strides we have made, and I am excited to see how we improve next season."

The VB team tried their best all year.  All the teams finished with decent records for the season. The A team finished off the season with a 6-6 record, B team finished off with a 3-3 record, and C team finished off with a 2-4 record.
