Panthers Defeat Spalding, Come Close Against Riverside
On September 15th, the Leigh Panthers traveled to Spalding and played in a triangular against the Stuart Broncos and the Riverside Chargers. The Panthers secured a win against Stuart, but the Panthers just missed the mark and lost to Riverside.
The Stuart game ended in two sets with scores of 25-17 and 26-24. With high energy the whole time and the mindset that the ball would not drop on their side, Panthers were able to pull out a win!
The Panthers had high energy and kept up with the Chargers. Losing the first set 21-25, the Panthers knew they had to fight hard and were able to win the second set 25-17. Unfortunately, they just couldn’t pull out a win, losing 25-27 in the third set.
Senior Reese Wietfeld stated, “The triangular in Riverside was two great games where our team stuck together and had energy the entire time. We started off the night playing Stuart. We came out with energy and didn't let the ball drop on our side. Riverside was another great game. Our energy was contagious and we moved on after our mistakes. In the end, we may have fallen short but our team played together and ultimately had fun doing it!”
Mrs. Ellie Hann, the assistant coach says, “We took care of business for the Stuart game and played well. Coming out for the Riverside game we started out slow and ended up losing that first set. The rest of the game however we played the panther volleyball I have always known them to be capable of playing. Even though the score book said we lost, I would call that a win in my book! That game boosted morale for not only Bri and I but the girls and fans too!”
