Lady Pats Look to Score

The Lady Patriots have a great team for basketball this year. There are many new people on the team this year, including 14 freshmen. There are also many great players who are returning to the varsity team.

The head coach for the Patriots, Mr. Matt Murren, said, "We have a team that will return 8 letterwinners from last year's state qualifying team. We return 3 starters from last year’s team—Chloe Hanel, Baylee Settje, and Brynn Settje—and have 4 others back from the rotation.”

The freshman this guards this year are Ava Baumert, Carmen Malena, Ella Baumert, Grace Hansen, Kaylee Brabec, Kyla Clarkson, Maizie Stoklasa, Reann Bruhn, Reese Wietfeld, and Vylet Hollatz. The freshman posts are Chelsy Matthies, Emersyn Urban, Graicee Sortino and Reese Bruhn.

The sophomore guards are Ava Kasik and Kendall Schneider. The sophomore posts are Elizabeth Hoffman, Karly Wendt and Nevaeh Zulkoski.

The junior guards are Brynn Settje, Cadence Indra and Izabel Hollatz. The posts are Baylee Settje and Makenna Hake.

Mr. Murren went on to say, “The Settje sisters returning from last year's starting lineup is exciting—they were playing some of the best basketball they’ve played at the end of last season.”

Finally, this year’s senior guard is Chloe Hanel and the senior post is Gracie Eisenmann.

The head coach is Matt Murren and the assistant coaches are Jennifer Maliha, Rebecca Hiatt, and Kelsey Moore.

Matt Murren said “Vying for the other two starting spots and in the varsity minutes rotation will be Gracie Eisenmann, Ava Kasik, Cadence Indra, Izzy Hollatz, and Nevaeh Zulkoski.  Having players step up into new roles will be a key for the Patriots as well as continuing to find scorers of the ball.”

The girls had their first game on November 27th, and it was a jamboree game on the road against Wynot. The final score for the game was Patriots winning 34-31. Jamboree games are optional and do not count toward team’s season records.

Junior Baylee Settje said, “The jamboree game was a great game to help us see what we have to improve on and what we need to do that will help us for future games. For it being the very first game we played this year, it went very well. We knew that we had to play physical and confident if we wanted to win, and that is exactly what we did. Our team has a lot of potential this year. Every single person is working hard during practices, and I can't wait to see what we can accomplish this season.”
