Patriot Boys Battle At Conference

After a struggling season so far, the Patriots traveled to Bancroft-Rosalie to face the #4 seeded Panthers in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament on January 26.

The Panthers jumped out to an 16-8 lead on the Patriots by the end of the first quarter, then really blew the lid open in the second quarter, putting up 29 points.

Although that game ended in a 65-43 win in favor of Bancroft-Rosalie, the Patriots were not dissuaded. They took all their pros from that game and got ready for the home game against the Wisner-Pilger Gators.

The Gators had beaten the Patriots just a week before Tuesday’s matchup in Leigh. But this time, the boys rallied for a massive victory, beating Wisner-Pilger 60-43 for their first win of the season.

Head Coach Jeff Bachman said, “I was very pleased with our effort in both of our games. Against B-R we did some things well, but they shot the lights out and we couldn't score enough to hang with them. In the Wisner-Pilger game, we finally put a complete game together and were able to pull out the 'W'. I was very proud of the work our boys have put in to get this win. I was also very happy with the student section for bringing great energy that night.”

Sophomore Kyle McMullin was the leading scorer for the tournament, scoring 13 against Bancroft-Rosalie and 15 against Wisner-Pilger.

“We started off with a tough loss to Bancroft-Rosalie,” McMullin said. “We worked hard to prepare for Wisner-Pilger. This led to us getting a fun first win. We will continue to work hard and prepare for the upcoming games.”
