JH Boys Struggle to Find a Groove

After having many of their games cancelled due to weather in early January, the junior high boys’ basketball team played four games in one week!

In the first two of those games, they faced Humphrey St Francis and Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family.

On Monday, February 5, the junior high boys’ basketball team faced St. Francis in Humphrey. Although the A and B team did not get the outcome that they wanted, they still fought hard.

Coach Seth Cash said “Both teams struggled with the St. Francis 1-3-1 and their full-court pressure. This caused us to play faster than we wanted to and not play our game. We struggled to get into an offensive groove. That paired with foul trouble really hurt us.  Even through this loss, the team continues to keep their heads up and learn from their mistakes.”

Eighth grader Tyce Larson stated, “We started out slow then after the first quarter we figured out how to play better basketball, but it still wasn’t enough.”

On Tuesday, February 6, the boys played Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family in Leigh. The B team came out first and got a win 25-19, but the A team struggled finding their groove again.

“The A team again had a hard time getting into a rhythm early, and our turnover woes continued.  We made some halftime adjustments and began to see some good things happen. However, our slow start and mental miscues proved to be what cost us the win,” Coach Cash said.

“We fought hard, but we fell short,” Larson said.

He continued, “The B Team had a great offensive showing in the second half, outscoring HLHF 18-7 in the second half with the only points in the 4th quarter allowed in the final seconds. Jace Prinz was the hero of the game, hitting three straight 3s and putting the nail in the coffin hitting another 3-pointer late to put the game out of reach for the Bulldogs.”

After these games, the A team has a 1-5 record, and the B team has a 2-4 record.
