C-Team Patriots Bit by the Bulldogs

As the Patriot Basketball season has taken off, players on all levels are getting in plenty of games.  On Monday, December 3, both boys’ and girls’ C-Team head to Humphrey to take on the Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family Bulldogs just as both varsity teams had done the Saturday before.

The first quarter, the boys played hard to keep up with the Bulldogs, but fell a little short, with ending the first quarter 6-8.

The Bulldogs stepped up their game and came out with 14 points in the second quarter, holding the Patriots at 5. At the end of the first half the score was 11-22, with the Patriots down.

Coming back after halftime the boys continued to fight but the Bulldogs fought just a little harder. At the end of the third quarter, the score was 14-38 with the Patriots still down. The final score of the game was 20-48, with the Bulldogs pulling out the win.

Clarkson freshman, Jared Novotny, led the team with 9 points, followed by Clarkson senior, Douglas Pocasangre with 4 points.  Freshman Jacob Eisenmann had 6 rebounds.

Head Coach, Jeff Bachman, said, “This was a good learning experience for our young guys. We saw some positives and some growth. We just need to keep working on handling pressure.”

Leigh freshman, Kanyon Held, said, “Even though we lost, I think we improved as a group and learned a lot. I think we had a big step up from the JV game that was the Friday before by breaking the press HLHF put on us a lot smoother.”

Coming back after halftime, the Patriots were still in it. They pushed to score, but the Bulldogs shut them out. The Bulldogs’ perseverance pushed them to 9 points in the third quarter holding the Patriots at 2. The score at the end of the third quarter was 2-28 in favor of the Bulldogs

The fourth quarter went a little better for the Patriots, but it was still a tough loss.  The final score of the game was 7-37.

C Team Coach, Abby Sayers, said, “This was a difficult loss for the C-team. We struggled with handling the ball, and our turnovers were a key factor to the score of the game. My goal for this team is to work on ball control, attacking the hoop, and being able to handle pressure. For the reminder of the year, we will need to focus on improving on our fundamentals and working together as a team.”
