Boys and Girls BB Both Down the Dragons

Freshman Logan Schroeder looks to pass against Madison.

Both the girls’ and boys’ basketball teams played a good night of basketball on December 13. Both varsity teams faced off against Madison and pulled out the win against the Dragons. Due to the games being rescheduled, both matchups were varsity only.

The Lady Patriots started with a bang to kick off the night. They were leading the game by 10 at halftime and doubled that lead by the end of the game with a final score of 49-22.

“We didn’t play as well as we should have, but we still got the win!” senior Kaegan Held said. “We are excited for the game Saturday and are looking to get another win!”

The Lady Pats were led by junior Ashlynn Novotny and senior Kaegan Held. Held put up 14 points and Novotny pitched in 7 rebounds and 5 assists.

"We came out in the Madison game and played great defense. We gave ourselves numerous opportunities at different looks in transition and around the rim which was good to see us pushing the basketball,” head coach Matt Murren said.

The Patriots continued on their warpath will the boys team nabbing their second win of the season so far. It was a close game up through the third quarter with a difference of only six, but then the Patriots sealed the game by scoring an astonishing 33 points in the fourth quarter.

“It was a good win for us. We all played hard, gave 100%, and left everything out on the court,” senior Daniel Beller said. “It was a big win for us to knock off an undefeated team.”

Freshman Jarred Novotny led the team with 21 points. Sophomore Tommy McEvoy also contributed 18 points with freshman Carter Hanel and senior Daniel Beller pitching in 13 and 11 rebounds respectively.

Head coach Jeff Bachman said. “I am so proud of the performance of our team tonight. They worked their tails off and we got a hard-earned W.”

These wins bring the Patriot girls’ record to 5-1 and the boys’ record to 2-3.
