Panthers Oust Patriots

The boys’ and girls’ varsity basketball teams are struggling to find their groove early this year, as they both suffered losses at the hands of the Bancroft-Rosalie Panthers in an away game on December 8.  They were both bested by Bancroft, but not before putting up a fight.
The Patriot girls took an early lead 15-9 in the first quarter, but as soon as they became comfortable, Bancroft took a huge jump in the second quarter, scoring 24 points to make the halftime score 28-33.  The girls kept it close in the second half, only getting outscored by 2 points, but they just couldn’t make a run, and the game ended 46-53 Bancroft.
Assistant coach Mrs. Jennifer Maliha said, “We made a quick run at the beginning of the game, making it 12-0. but then we lost some momentum when our shots weren't falling and they answered with some 3's. We battled back within one point with about two and half minutes remaining but fell short by the time the game ended. We have some work to do in practice and we are still going to make it tough on our opponents coming up.”
The boys kept up at the beginning of the first quarter, but trailed by 7 by the end of the first. Bancroft rocketed to a 9-21 lead in the second.  The Pats tried to keep it close in the 2nd half, but were bested 49-68.
Head coach Jeff Bachman said, “I was very pleased with our offensive effort, but we struggled on the defensive end. We need to keep working and improving on our team defense. I am pleased with the progress we have made this season so far. “
Sophomore Kyle McMullin said “The game against Bancroft-Rosalie was a tough game. They had some great shooters and played together. We will continue to work hard and continue to improve throughout the season, so we can get where we want to be.”
