Girls Finish Regular Season

It was a week filled with home basketball games, and the final home games of the season at that.
On Tuesday, February 6, Clarkson Leigh Patriots hosted the Pierce Bluejays on their home court in Leigh.
The JV girls start off the night batting against the Bluejays. They sent the game into overtime, but unfortunately the Patriots lost by three points.
After the JV game the varsity took the court. The Bluejays played an aggressive defense and limited the Patriots to only 11 points in the first half.
Heading into the second half of the game, the Bluejays led the Patriots 12-11. The Patriots battled hard throughout the match but just fell short. The Bluejays beat the Patriots 31-25.
Head coach Matt Murren said, "The Pierce game was a physical game from the onset, and we struggled to get some flow offensively. It is a credit to them that their defense was active and took us out of our rhythm. Defensively we were able to limit them to 31 points, but offensively we just didn't have enough working that night."
Following the game against Pierce, the Patriots then faced off against the Stanton Mustangs on February 8.
The JV girls started the night off strong by fending off the Mustangs and coming out on top.
Next it was time for the varsity to battle against the Mustangs. The Patriots struggled in the first quarter and allowed the Mustangs to get ahead 9-2. In the second quarter the Patriots picked up the pace and scored 22 points. Going into halftime the Patriots led the Mustangs 24-11.
In the second half the Patriots continued to put pressure on the Mustangs, allowing them to come out on top. The Patriots prevailed over the Mustangs 43-33.
"It was great to see some shots start to fall and rhythm and flow start to happen offensively again in the 2nd and 3rd quarters where we combined for 36 points in those quarters. I thought we did a great job of getting stops on the defensive end, rebounding the basketball and then getting ourselves out in transition to start our offense. It was good to get back on the winning side heading into sub-districts," said Coach Murren.
With these final two games before the post-season, the girls have concluded their regular season with a 14-6 record and a #13 ranking in power points in Class C-2.
