BBB Defeats Mustangs

On Tuesday, February 6th, the Patriot boys faced the Pierce Bluejays. The game was hosted in Leigh.

To kick off the game, the Blujays led the Patriots 14-11 closing the first half. The Patriots were able to have a strong offense and try to stay on the Bluejays. To close out the game, the Patriots ended up losing 29-52.

Kyle McMullin led his team with scoring 9 points and grabbing 9 rebounds. Ryan Brichacek, Trey Steffensmeier, and Wyatt Crosley also helped lead their team and each scored 6 points.

Head Coach Jeff Bachman said, “We ran into a really good defensive team. Our offense struggled to get anything going, I was pleased with how we defended them.”

Following the loss on Tuesday, the boys had another game on Thursday. The Patriots battled the Stanton Mustangs on February 7th, in Leigh.

Starting the game, the Patriots came out strong and were leading Stanton 16-9 at the end of the first. The boys continued to play strong and scored another 11 points in the second quarter. Coming out of the first half, the Patriots were up 27-17.

After the strong first half the Patriots had, they weren’t going to let the Mustangs stop them. Scoring 18 points in the third quarter, and 6 points in the final quarter, the Patriots ended up on top, clinching their second win this year.  The final score of the game was Patriots with 51 points, and the Mustangs with 36.

Trey Steffensmeier led the team to victory with 16 points, and both Tucker Matthies and Connor Jurgensen added with 8 points.

Coach Bachman said, “This was a good win for us. Our guys shot well and played their best defensive game of the year. It was fun to send our seniors out with a win in their last home game.”

Senior Jordan Noonan said, “Coming out for the Pierce game, I think we played well against them in the first half, but we went through a lull where we couldn't get our shots to fall. I was really happy to see how our defense played, and we just need shots to fall next time.

“In the Stanton game we played very well,” Noonan continued. “We came out with a lot of energy. We were able to move the ball around and get open looks and our defense effort really helped stop them in the second half and we pulled away for a big win.”
