Patriots take on Gators

The Clarkson-Leigh Patriots traveled to Wisner-Pilger for a Tuesday night game against the Gators.

After the JV games had finished, the varsity girls dominated the first half of their game, leading 25-10 going into halftime.

After that the girls cruised to a 52-37 win, improving their record to 11-4.

Senior Chloe Hanel had a big game with 19 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 steals.  Junior Baylee Settje added 12 points and 4 rebounds.

Assistant coach Mrs. Jennifer Maliha said, “We went into this game after a week without games. We knew we needed to get a quick lead to set the tone of the game, and we did just that. We allowed our defense to force some turnovers, and we held the Gators to low scoring.”

Junior Brynn Settje said, “I thought the game went really well for us not being able to play very many games these last couple of weeks. We played really hard and worked very well together as a team. It was a good way for us to get back into a routine and get used to playing games again.”

The boys’ game was the final game of the night, featuring a battle of two teams both hungry for their first win of the season.

The Patriot boys started off well, leading after the first quarter 17-15. After that it was a close match through the rest of the game, but the Gators pulled out a 59-46 win over the Patriots.

The boys were led by Tucker Matthies who had 13 points, and Korbin Lemburg with 10.  Kyle McMullin led the team in rebounds with 9.

Head Coach Jeff Bachman said, “I was very proud of our effort, and we fought the whole game. Unfortunately, we couldn’t make enough shots to pull out the win.”
