Lopsided Games at LHNE

On Tuesday, January 16 the Clarkson Leigh Patriots traveled to Norfolk for a basketball marathon against the Lutheran High Northeast Eagles.

The night started out with both the JV girls and boys playing. The JV girls came out with a close win while the boys unfortunately fell to the Eagles.

After the JV was the girls’ varsity. The Patriots came out with a lot of energy on both sides of the court, which allowed them to prevent the Eagles from scoring much in the first half. Going into halftime the Patriots led the struggling Eagles team 37-4.

The Patriots continued to make multiple offensive plays and get defensive stops throughout the second half to put them out on top. The Patriots defeated the Eagles 63-19.

Junior Izzy Hollatz said, “I thought that during the Lutheran High game, we played very well! We were able to get out in transition and make big plays offensively. Our defense also locked down, allowing us to keep the game low scoring.”

Once the girls’ game concluded, the Patriot boys took the floor against an undefeated Eagle team. The Patriots struggled to find energy in the first half, causing mistakes to happen. After the first half, the Patriots were trailing the Eagles 15-27.

In the second half the Eagles continued to make plays and knock down shots while the Patriots struggled to get things rolling on the offensive side of the court. The Patriots fell to the Eagles 29-62.

Head coach Jeff Bachman said, “We came out a bit low on energy and got behind a really good team. I was happy how we fought the whole game, we just made too many mistakes against a high-quality opponent.”
