Boys’ BB Struggles Offensively

In two of their final games before the Christmas break, the Patriot boys’ basketball team was hungry for a win, as they hosted the West-Point Beemer Cadets in Clarkson on December 14th, and headed to Howells on December 16th for a matchup against the Howells-Dodge Jaguars.

The boys came out slow in the first half and struggled to break the Cadets press. The Cadets were knocking the shots while the Patriots weren’t as successful towards the hoop. At halftime the Cadets were up 44-11.

Coming out of halftime, the boys knew they needed to knock down some shots, but the Cadets defense held the Patriots to only 7 points in the third quarter.

Going into the final quarter of the game, the Patriots battled but ultimately weren’t able to execute things offensively. The final score of the game was 61-21 with the Cadets on top.

Trey Steffensmeier led the team with 6 points and Kyle McMullin added 4 points with 6 rebounds as well.

Head coach, Jeff Bachman said, “This is a game we need to learn from. We struggled against their defensive pressure and need to learn from our mistakes and get better moving forward.”

Against Howells-Dodge, the Patriots didn’t fare much better.

The Jaguars came out strong in the first half and outscored the Patriots 42-17.

After halftime the Patriots struggled to succeed offensively while the Jaguars kept the pressure. The Jaguars came out on top, winning 71-36.

The Patriots were led by Trey Steffensmeier with 8 points and Tucker Matthies with 7 points.

“These games did not go how we wanted them to. We will continue to work hard and improve, so we can have more favorable outcomes in the future,” said sophomore Kyle McMullin.
