Junior High Boys Step on the Court

On January 21, the Clarkson-Leigh junior high boys basketball team made their debut. To kick off their season, they played against the Howells-Dodge Jaguars. The game was hosted in Leigh and although the boys came out to play hard, they sadly lost.

There was both an A and B team. The B team played first and lost 11-33. Layton Held led the team, and was the highest scoring player with 5 points. Following the boys B team, the A team played right after. The Jaguars came out with another win, but only snuck by the Patriots by 3 points, leaving the final score 18-21. Cash Fehringer from Clarkson, led the team in that game with 6 points.

Following the boys’ first game on the 21st, they had another game later that week on the 25th versus David City. Like the game against Howells Dodge, there was both an A game and a B game. In the B game, 7th grader Wyatt Eisenmann led the team to victory by scoring 9 points. The final of the game was 24-17, with the Patriot win. Following the B team victory, the A team also had great success. The Patriots came out and beat the Scouts, 30-15. Cash Fehringer helped lead the team to victory, and scored 12 points.

Coach Tyler Brester said, “The junior high boys have been working really hard this season. Unfortunately, we have had a few of our games and practices cut short due to weather, but we are making the most of the time we have had. We opened the year up in Leigh against a tough Howells-Dodge. Both teams battled hard but came up a little bit short. Next up we took on David City and came out on top of that one. The boys at all levels showed great hustle and played team basketball. It is exciting to see the team grow in the little bit of gym time we have had. As a coaching staff, we are really looking forward to watching the kids continue to grow and develop their skills.”

7th Grader from Leigh, Layton Held said, “It has been a hard season with practice to practice to game. We have had a lot of games and practice canceled due to snow. We lost our first game to our rivals Howells Dodge. Our second game we played awesome stopping the pressure and holding them to hardly any points against David City. We have been getting better and better every day.”

With both the A and B team jumping out to a 1-1 start, we wish the junior high boys basketball team the best of luck with the rest of their season!
