Girls BB Brings Record to 3-3

In one of their final games before the Christmas moratorium, the Patriot girls’ basketball team looked to avenge a tough loss the game before by beating David City High on December 17 in David City.

The girls’ JV was a hard-fought game and the ending score was in favor of the Patriots.

The Varsity girls began the game with an early deficit, trailing by 6 points at the end of the first quarter.

Whatever the coaches said in the huddle before the first quarter must have worked because the girls came out with guns blazing in the second quarter, outscoring the Scouts 22-4.

From there, the Patriots never looked back after halftime, continuing to outscore the Scouts in the third and fourth quarters.

The final score ended 50-24, bringing the girls’ varsity record to 3-3 on the season.

It was a very balanced attack for the Patriots, with five players scoring between 7 and 9 points. Ashlynn Novotny and Cassidy Hoffman both added 11 rebounds and Novotny set up her teammates with 9 assists.

“We really came together and played well.  We rebounded the ball well and had a lot of opportunities to run our plays. Even though we started out slow we came out strong in the second half to close out the game with a win. In the upcoming games, hopefully we can play as well as we did in the second half” said junior Cassidy Hoffman.

Assistant Coach Abby Sayers said, “We started out a little slow the first half but came back and played really hard the second half.  The girls started pushing the ball and we do well in transition so that got our momentum going.  Overall the girls played a nice game!”
