Boys Basketball Takes the Court

By: Sage Fernau a freshman at Leigh High School

It seems hard to believe that Patriot boys athletes are already trading in their cleats for sneakers and the field for the court, but it is that time of year already...basketball season is upon us!

With a dribble, swoosh, and a dunk, the boys are ready for this upcoming basketball season. Sadly, due to Covid-19 restrictions, the jamboree game on November 31 was cancelled. But the start of the season is still set for December 4th and 5th against Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family and Madison.

This year’s team returns an abundance of letter winners but faces a lot of injury to start the season.  Returning letterwinners include seniors Tommy McEvoy (injured), Lance Paprocki (injured), and Trevor Zulkoski; Juniors Carter Hanel, Mitch Beeson, Jarred Novotny (injured), and Eli Hays; and sophomores Kyle Kasik and Drew Beeson (injured).

Rounding out this year’s team are juniors Gavin Novotny, Kyan Schnelle, Logan Schroeder, Kanyon Held, Jacob Eisenmann, Zane Williams, and Isaac Rodenburg; sophomores Kyle Holmberg, Jase Indra, Mason Whitmore, and Dalton Zulkoski; and freshmen Trey Steffensmeier, Joey Steffensmeier, Christian Hamernik, Mic Sayers, Jordan Noonan, and Jack Brabec.

The team is coached by Jeff Bachman, who is assisted by Andrew Faltys and Willie Hollatz.

"I am excited for the upcoming season,” Bachman said. “We bring back a lot of experience and have a chance to have a great season. We need to improve on the defensive end of the floor and become more consistent on the offensive end."
