C-Team GBB Team Struggles in Opening Games

By: Deandrea Rivera, a junior at Leigh High School

The Patriot girls’ basketball C team season officially began on Monday, December 6th, and they played their second game of the season (and final game before Christmas break) on December 13th.

For the first game, the girls traveled to Humphrey to play Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family.

All of the girls tried their hardest when playing, however, they still lost. The ending score was 19-47.

Freshman Brianne Kuhr said, “Our C-team game against Humphrey was our first game of the season, so we were still learning about what plays work for our team. Every single player played our hardest, but we couldn't get the win. We learned that boxing out on defense is what makes a great defensive team, and we need to work on that skill.”

The next C-team game was against Humphrey St. Francis and played in Leigh.

For the first half, the girls pushed hard and entered halftime with a score of 14-14 against the Flyers.

The Patriots struggled with turnovers and struggled hitting shots after halftime though, and the game ended 21-36 in favor of the Flyers.

Freshman Baylee Settje stated, “Overall, the St. Francis game wasn't one of our best. We started off really good in the first half. We played as a team and got through their press pretty well. The second half we couldn't get through their press, which led to us turning over the ball. As a team, I think we took a lot out of this game, and we still have a lot of things to work on.”

The Patriots look to keep improving their skills in their upcoming games!
