By: Tanyn Larson, a sophomore at Leigh High School

On Monday, January 10, the junior high girls’ basketball team had a home game against Stanton in Leigh. Then, on Thursday, January 13, the girls faced Shelby-Rising City in an away game.

On the 10th, the B/C team girls started the night off well, winning 31-6 against the Mustangs. The A-team girls then finished the night with another victory, winning their game 21-5.

Karly Wendt, an 8th grader said, “The Stanton game started off rough, but we got our head in the game and ended up pulling through with a very physical game.”

A few nights later on January 13, the C team girls lost a close game 12-13. Following the C team game, the A team girls won 33-10.

Karly Wendt also said, “The Shelby-Rising City game was fun.  We played well, which led the A team to a big win.”

Coach Melissa Brabec said, “We are near the end of our season and these games showed how far and how hard these girls have worked!  It was fun to see the girls each score in the games and work together as a team to execute our offenses.”

The A-team record after these two games is 6-4.
