Two More Wins for the Patriot Girls

By: Natalie Brabec, a senior at Leigh High School

The Clarkson-Leigh Patriot girls’ basketball team found their groove again this week after losing two straight games the week prior.

The Patriots came out victorious in both games when matched up against Lutheran High Northeast and Twin River on Tuesday, January 18, and Thursday, January 20.

In the Tuesday night away game, the Eagles were 5-8 going into the matchup. The Patriots beat them easily after a solid game, with a final score of 61-35.

Junior, Jessica Hoffman said, "The LHNE game was a great game on both ends of the court. We locked down on both defense and offense to pull out a big win against them.”

Sophomore Chloe Hanel led the team with 19 points. Senior Kennedy Settje played a balanced game with 12 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 steals.

Coach Murren said about the Lutheran High Northeast game: "The girls did a great job defensively in bringing energy in our half court 1-3-1 causing deflections, steals, and some run out layups. It was a way to get us going, and the girls fed off of it. We took a lot of great looks with confidence and moved the basketball well. It was good to get back on track."

On Thursday they played a 4-11 Twin River squad in Leigh for Parents’ Night and won with the score of 55-29.

"It was nice to close the week out with a victory on our home court on Parents’ Night,” Murren said. “We were able to get a lot of good looks at the hoop and knock some down as the game went along. Defensively we were able to get some tips and steals to get us run outs at the rim."

“Twin River was another great game to get us going,” Hoffman said. “Overall it was a great week for our basketball team, and it was a lot of fun to add two more wins to our record."

The Patriot girls’ record is now 11-5.
