Junior Blake Loseke goes for a fast break against Humphrey Lindsay.

The Clarkson-Leigh Patriot boys’ basketball team kicked off their season by battling against the Humphrey Bulldogs on December 5th in Leigh and Madison Dragons in Madison on the 6th.

The boys’ varsity had a rough start to the first game against Humphrey, which left them trailing behind, ending the first half 25-33. The boys continued to battle, but unfortunately could not pull through with a win. The final score was 57-60.

Starter, Kyle McMullin, said, “We started out slow in the first half due to nerves and their press. We got into a rhythm later in the game, but couldn't finish the game out. I was happy with how hard we played and that we didn't give up. Hopefully we will keep playing hard, which will lead to more wins in the future.”

In the opener, the boys were led by McMullin, who scored 21 points. Senior Tucker Matthies had a solid all-around game with 8 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists.

The Clarkson Leigh boys’ team traveled to Madison to play the Madison Dragons on Saturday, December 6th. The Madison Dragons had the upper hand with a record of 1-0 to the Patriots’ 0-1.

Scoring 28 and leading by 6 in the first half, the boys’ varsity team started the game off on a high note. After halftime, the boys continued to fight, but the Madison Dragons were able to overcome the Patriots with the Dragons scoring 41 in the second half. The Patriots fell short in another heartbreaker 60-63.

In this game, the team was again led by seniors Matthies and McMullin. Matthies posted 22 points and 5 boards while McMullin contributed 15 points, 14 boards, and 3 blocked shots.

Easton Brabec, sophomore starter, said, “We played hard and we worked well as a team, but we fell short in both games at the end.”

“I was very pleased with our effort. The boys played hard and executed well. We had a few lapses in the Madison game and unfortunately came up short.” said head coach, Jeff Bachman.
