Patriot Girls Defeat Scouts!
On Thursday, January 22, the girls’ basketball team took on the David City Scouts in Clarkson.
The night started off with the JV girls playing 2 quarters. Junior, Carmen Malena said “This was a good game for our JV team. We moved the ball well and trusted our teammates every possession. We played together and had good energy throughout which helped us secure the win.” In 2 quarters the JV team came out on top with the score ending 20-8.
The JV team ultimately brought the energy that carried over to the varsity game. Coming into the game, the Patriots knew that they had to shut down their shooters and box out to get the rebounds. After the first quarter, the score remained close being 12-10. The Patriots started to pull away going into half time with a 12-point lead. Shots were falling and defensively the girls executed. Switching between man and a zone defense helped the Patriots get the victory. Senior Liz Hoffman said, “Our team’s chemistry really shined against the Scouts. We came out behind in the first couple of minutes but quickly pulled ourselves together and ended the first quarter ahead. After that it was a battle on both ends of the court and things got a tad heated at times, especially towards the end when they cut the score gap down to 6. We definitely saw improvement in our free throw percentage, going 8 of 10. It was simply a fun game to play and a good confidence booster going into the week of conference!”
