Patriots Win One, Lose One
The 6-14 Clarkson-Leigh Patriot boys’ basketball team played in two games against the 10-9 Fort Calhoun Pioneers on February 10 and against the 1-20 Stanton Mustangs for Senior Night on February 12.
Playing the Pioneers, the Patriot guys didn’t look in too bad of shape after two quarters and only being down 8, 22-29. Like past games, the Patriots came out slow, and the Pioneers took advantage of it by getting up 18 at the end of the 3rd. In the end, the boys couldn’t overcome the deficit and ended the game with a loss, 40-64.
In the game, the boys were led by Kyle McMullin, who had 7 rebounds and 20 points, shooting 55% from behind the arc.
For the second game in two days, the Patriot boys stayed at home for Senior Night in Leigh to play the 1-20 Stanton Mustangs.
The Patriots started out with a low scoring quarter, only scoring 9 points but being up two. The second quarter, the guys started to heat up, scoring 21 points and being up 13 at half time 30-17. The Patriots never slowed down and ended up beating Stanton 53-37.
Against Stanton, the Patriots had two top scorers. Tucker Matthies was the highest scorer with 21 points, and Kyle McMullin was close behind with 16.
