Patriot Boys Win One, Lose One Heading into Break
By: Leah Pinkston, a freshman at Leigh High School
On December 19, 2020, the Clarkson/Leigh Patriots were matched up in a tough outing against the Howells-Dodge Jaguars basketball squad. Going into the game, the Patriots held a 2-3 record. However, the Jaguars overwhelmed the hosting Patriots by a difference of 66-35, bringing the Patriots to a 2-4 record.
Sophomore Mason Whitmore brought 7 points to the team, and Junior Eli Hays contributed 6.
Coach Jeff Bachman said, “We battled through 3 quarters but weren’t able to finish the game out. We have to keep working to improve on both ends of the floor.”
On yet another game on December 22, on the heels of the defeat against Howells-Dodge, the Patriots’ high hopes carried them through their next matchup against the Lakeview Vikings.
Clarkson-Leigh scored 42 points and held the host Vikings to 33 in the Patriots’ triumph.
Sophomore Kyle Kasik had a breakout game, scoring 21 points, half of the team’s total 42.
Coach Bachman also said, “I felt like we played our best defensive game of the year and got some great offensive contributions from several guys. This was an important win for us.”
This win brought the Patriots’ record to 3-4.
