Students Enjoy Homecoming Spirit Week

By: Aubrie Hanna, a sophomore at Leigh High School

The Patriots kicked off their Homecoming Week with a bang with a fun-filled Spirit Week! They continued their excitement throughout the week into the Homecoming game against the Madison Dragons. Students and staff dressed up to show off not only their Patriot Pride, but also their creativeness and unity.

The school started off the week strong with Country vs. Country Club, with Alisyn Lich winning ‘Country Club’ and James Grotelueschen winning ‘Country.’ Not only did the students dress to impress, but they also decorated the doors and hallways of the high school to show off their pride.

On Tuesday, students and faculty were seeing in twos as they matched with their friends on Twin Day. The pair of victors were eighth-graders Neveah Zulkoski and Ava Kasik as basketball players, and seniors Aiden Miller and Calvin Wemhoff as beekeepers.

The classes were not only unified, but also head-to-head as they competed for Class Unity Day on Wednesday. The champions overall were the senior class, who dressed up in their best button ups and khaki shorts as “Dads.”

Leigh Public Schools were bringing back more than just the 70s, 80s, and 90s when they dressed up for Throwback Thursday. Hoop earrings, bell-bottomed jeans, vintage band tees, you name it, could be found at the school on Thursday. Sophomore Taya Hambleton, with her roller blades and bell bottoms, and senior Calvin Wemhoff, with his 70s plaid leisure suit, took the cake in this competition.

And, as always, as a Patriot tradition, we donned our red, white, and blue on Friday in preparation for the Homecoming game that night. Cortlynn Cadwallader and Cody Jedlicka showed their Patriot Pride and won the dress-up contest.

Not only did we have a school flooded with red, white, and blue to give our football players some confidence going into the game that night, but the school also held a Clarkson-Leigh pep rally to wish them luck and show off the Homecoming King and Queen candidates, their costumes, and also their teamwork in various games.

The candidate couples at the pep rally dressed as famous couples in history, including Makenna Held and Jacob Eisenmann dressed as “chips and salsa,” Kanyon Held and Madison Noonan as Super Mario and Princess Peach; Kevin Becerril and Natalie Brabec, and Logan Schroeder and Kennedy Settje dressed as pickles, Super Mario and Princess Peach, Tiger King and Carol Baskin, and more competed in the familiar balloon popping contest, where the two candidates had to rush to pop as many balloons between them without using their hands, and also competed in the “Newlywed Trivia” game.

After an exciting week, the festivities ended ended on a very high note with a victory in the football game against Madison on Friday and the Homecoming dance on Saturday!
