Several Medal at Conference Speech

The Leigh speech team traveled to take part in the East Husker conference speech meet at Howells-Dodge High School on Wednesday, February 25.

Conference is an extremely competitive meet, and Leigh had several medallists. In Extemporaneous Speaking, senior Luke Eisenmann finished 2nd, and senior Brayden Loseke finished 4th. Senior Sydney Messerlie finished 4th in POI, and sophomore Cade Hoesly finished 6th in Humorous Prose.

Head coach Ethan Hathaway said, “We have an incredibly competitive conference. Our students did well and most missed out on finals by 1 place. We did have some success with Cade and Brayden medaling in varsity for the first time this season. We look to continue to improve as we approach districts.”

Senior Elizabeth Hoffman, who competed in OID, said, “It's always fun to spend a day at a speech meet, especially when the quality of the competition is as extreme as the East Husker Conference. As a team, we did not place as well overall as we wanted to—neither did our OID—but it was fun anyway to be able to spend time with my teammates, enhance my oral presentation skills, and cheer on our awesome finalists! I'm looking forward to the rest of the season!”
